For some, calm waters, a sunny day and a stop or two at a castle is all that’s needed to enjoy a 1000 Islands Cruise. But for others, live music or a murder mystery would also be welcome, especially while aboard in the evening. Here are four cruise lines that offer live entertainment for those looking to add something extra to their voyage around the islands this summer.
Gananoque Boat Line
Whether you’re looking for a live music cruise, a dinner and dancing cruise, a pirate cruise or even a murder mystery cruise, Gananoque Boat Line has you covered. Almost all of the bands performing this summer are tribute acts—from Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley to Elton John and Michael Jackson—so if you’re in the mood to groove with classic hits, this is the cruise line for you. And if you’re a country music fan, don’t miss the Modern Country Tribute night on August 9th, which will feature songs form Toby Keith, Keith Urban and Shania Twain among others. All of the live entertainment cruises happen in the evening, and some even include dinner. Tours depart from 280 Main Street, Gananoque. Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises
Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises has four entertainment options, each offered throughout the season on many of its cruises. The River Cats are a two-person band—Michael K. Myer on guitar and bass, and Spencer Evan on keyboard and clarinet—who are just as likely to play standards like “On the Sunny Side of the Street” as more rocking tunes like “Proud Mary.” Roger James plays everything from rock to Celtic to hillbilly music with a guitar, banjo or percussion instrument in hand. The main entertainer on the Island Star is Billy Bridger, whose act includes live music, impersonations of singers like Elvis Presley and a dance party DJ set. Guitarist Doug Reansbury plays soft rock and hits from the 60s and 70s aboard dining cruises. Tours depart from Crawford Dock in downtown Kingston. 1000 Islands & Seaway Cruises
1000 Islands & Seaway Cruises offers the Islands’ only regularly scheduled public party cruise: Rockin River Revue. Captain Andy will be your host on these three-hour tours (8pm – 11pm) aboard the Sea Fox II, a modern twin-deck catamaran with room for 120 partiers. As the title of this cruise suggests, it’s a voyage for people who love a healthy dose of rock n’ roll with their views of the islands. This year, Healy & Orr (June 28th, September 6th), A Bigger Hammer (July 19th) and The Trevor Walsh Group (August 16th) will be your performers. Tours depart from Block House Island – downtown Brockville. Adults only. $20, plus HST. 1000islandscruises.com/special-events/
Rockport Boat Line
In addition to its seven different cruises, Rockport Boat Line offers a few special entertainment cruises throughout the summer as well, such as The Great Gatsby Cruise on July 20. This speakeasy-like cruise will take you back to the prohibition era for food, fun, entertainment and cocktails from teacups. Dress up in your best 1920s garb for a chance to win an award. Rockport Boat Line can also line up entertainment for charter and private function cruises, so give them a call at 1-800-563-8687 or send them an email using their online form here. Tours depart from 23 Front Street, Rockport. Visit http://www.rockportcruises.com/~cruiserb/index.php/features/special-events for full details on special events.
