Oh yes, my friends! Time for another Instagram photo challenge post! This has to be one of my favourite things about this job. Every two weeks I put out a new #PhotoChallenge to our amazing community via Instagram – and each time I am absolutely blown away by the response.
What I love the most, is that we all get to go on the same visual journey throughout South Eastern Ontario together. A shared experience or story – told through a tonne of amazing, vivid images captured by none other than you! It’s absolutely incredible and inspirational!
Last week’s theme was Living History. I was inspired – not only by the diverse and fascinating history that South Eastern Ontario (and Canada) is built upon but also the coming of our nation’s 150th birthday.
Happy Friday! Thanks again for playing along with our little photo challenge, and keep tagging us in your adventures with: #GreatWaterway!
The Echoes of Time at Every Turn:
. From the Archives at @queensuniversity Sheldon photograph of Kingston City Hall and the Market Battery, from 1857. The clarity of the image is remarkable, and it was presumably taken from the Shoal Tower in what is now Confederation Basin. The Market Battery which is in evidence in the forefront was erected in 1848, prior to the construction of City Hall. #builtheritage #ygklove #ygk #1000islands #canada #historicbuilding #architect #vintage #designerlife #research #georgian #palladian #thesix #toronto #ottawa #canada150 #navy #uel #battery #marketsquare #thehip #doncherry #uppercanada #britishempire #greatwaterway #greatlakes #stlawrenceriver
Now we’re a bit late, but always up for a challenge. This week is Museum Week! To celebrate we will be posting over the next 7 days, with 7 themes and 7 hashtags. This year’s edition is also dedicated to the Women of the World, and in a museum full of female staff- we love celebrating girl power Throughout the grounds of the UEL Heritage Centre & Park you might notice a large number of apple trees in the West end. These trees are the remnants of the Allison Family’s orchard that still survive today. Here is a map marking the location of the orchard, along with some of our kitchen artifacts. See if you can guess what they are. Apple pie anyone? 🍎 #FoodMW #WomenMW #canada150 #GreatWaterway #loyalistparkway
