Grab the kiddies and hop in the car for a road trip to one (or more) of these fantastic Family Day activities this February! We have a list of 16 activities going on this 2019 that will help you create some memories that will last a lifetime.
Kingston
1. The Tett Artstravaganza
Spend your family day creating and creating art at The Tett Centre this Family Day. The Tett Centre, located at 370 Kings Street West, is a stunning not-for-profit creative arts centre that hosts a variety of family-friendly experiences from music, to acting and interactive art projects. All activities are taking place between 10am and 2pm, so grab the kids and get ready to have fun!
2. Family Skating
Gather up the kiddies and bring them to the INVISTA Centre for a full day of family skating. Enjoy some especially slippery moments on the ice during the ‘Parent & Tot Skating’ and then take a break for some yummy hot chocolate, snacks and games! This event runs from 10:30am until 3:30pm, so you will still have time to get home for dinner!
3. Feb Fest
This annual Kingston tradition is a signature event that you will want to attend this family day! Each weekend in February, Feb Fest puts on special events including ‘Imagination on Ice’ and the ‘Carr-Harris Cup’, and there are also plenty of fun things to do with the kids including munching on some sweet beavertails, skating lessons and wagon rides.
4. Teddy Bear Hospital Family Day Program
Things are about to get adorable! If you have some youngins that your spending this upcoming Family Day with then we recommend you take them to the Teddy Bear Hospital Program at the Museum of Health Care in Kingston! Kids aged 3 to 8 can bring in their most beloved teddy’s to be examined by doctors and nurses for bumps and bruises, as well as delicious treats from one of the limestone city’s best bakeries – Cards Bakery. Call ahead for pre-registration at 613-548-2419.
Brockville
5. Family Skating
Keep it simple and just skate through your family day with the whole tribe at Brockville’s Memorial Center or Centennial Youth Arena. Parent and Tot skating is only $2.50 for one adult and one child to skate from 9:00am until 10:00am, and 11:00am until 1:00pm. Show your skills or teach the little ones how to glide on the ice and then warm up with some hot cocoa in the afternoon.
6. The Winter Classic Weekend
Turn family ‘day’ into family ‘weekend’ at Brockville’s Winter Classic Weekend this year. Each day is filled with a ton of fun events from hockey games to barbeques to movies and free skating. For the adults – beer tents will be available on the Saturday, and for kids, lots of winter activities will be set up on King Street in downtown Brockville!
Cornwall and SDG Counties
7. Cornwall Colts Hockey
Grab your loved ones and take them to the truest Canadian sport – hockey! Watch the Cornwall Colts take on the Smiths Falls Bears at 2:00pm on Family Day this February, and make it a little more interesting by creating team cheers to pump up the players!
8. Countryside Adventures
Create the perfect family adventure that will be the talk of Sunday dinners for decades! Experience the magic of Winter with Countryside Adventures where you can skate through the forest hand-in-hand with those you love the most. Make a day of it and enjoy their warm bonfire after gliding through the 3 kilometre stretch of trail and finish your day by filling your bellies with mouthwatering moose ears and poutine!
Gananoque
8. ATV Tours
If you have a particularly adventurous clan you can definitely find some fun family action by taking an ATV tour of Gananoque’s trails! With over 37 kilometers of trail that brings you through the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve, the tour will show you incredible views of the diverse landscape as well as creating incredible memories for years to come.
9. Firehall Theatre – ‘World on a String’
Music Series
If you don’t have small children but would still like to get the family together for some quality time this Family Day then we recommend that you venture over to the Thousand Islands Playhouses’ Firehall Theatre on February 16th and 17th to hear some big band music through ‘World on a String – Cabaret Music Series’.
Prince Edward County
10. Family Day/Snowfest
This may quite possibly be the funnest day in all of 2019, so prepare yourself and your loved ones and head over to Maple Rest Heritage House at Sandbanks this Family Day! Bring all your fun winter toys as there will be cross-country skiing, tobogganing, bonfires, chili and jam sessions (exciting, right!). If you or your fam-jam can play any instruments you are also invited to bring it along and join in on some music sessions to really get the sounds flowing!
Bay of Quinte
11. Family Fishing Days
Ontario wants families to get together and get on the water this winter as they have designated February 16th to 18th as ‘Family Fishing Days’. This means you can reel in some big fish without a license for those days only, which provides the perfect chance to teach your kids a new skill while making unique memories with the family.
12. Search & Rescue Family Event
Quinte West puts family first every year with their annual Search & Rescue Family event at the National Air Force Museum of Canada. This year the 8 Air Maintenance Squadron are teaching event-goers about life support equipment and search and rescue through obstacle courses, parachute drops and so many more cool activities. To top off this unforgettable experience, you can get a complimentary family portrait to commemorate one of the best Family Days you’ve ever had.
13. Batawa Ski Hill or Snowshoe Adventure
Grab your snowboard and skis and hit the slopes from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Batawa Ski Hill, stop by Dimitri’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Frankford for some warm delicious local pizza and then meet together with family, kids (you can even bring your fur family) at 6:30pm on the lodge grounds to be guided on Snowshoe. Sip on cider and snacks while you explore and enjoy a unique and brisk evening.
14. Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo
If you are travelling through Belleville this Family Day you can be sure to create an unforgettable experience. Surprise your family with a visit to Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo which will be stopping by the Belleville Travelodge for February 16th to 19th only! Meet an adorable baby sloth, tarantulas, owls and many more amazing animals, even take part in interactive sessions with the different exotic animals.
Lennox &Addington and Frontenac County
15. Try Bird Watching
Take your little ones out to either Wolfe Island or
Amherst Island for some of the best birding experience you could have! Explore through snowy fields and
Rideau Heritage Route
16. Cross Country Skiing
Strap up your skis and snowshoes and put on some extra layers! This Family Day bring your favourite people to Murphy’s Point Provincial Park or Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area for some good-old-fashioned cross-country skiing and snowshoeing! With trails as short as 4 kilometers and as long as 20, you can choose how long you’d like to be out in the winter tundra and then warm up on the scenic drive home.
